The publication

Avlon Tech Articles is the engineering publication of Avlon Technologies. It exists to share practical guidance from building and operating modern software systems: CI/CD, cloud architecture, release management, DevOps, AI-assisted engineering, and the technical decision-making that ties them together.

A few principles shape what gets published here:

  • Positions over surveys. Articles take a considered position and defend it, rather than listing every possible option.
  • Trade-offs stated honestly. Every recommendation has a context where it is wrong. Articles say so.
  • Generalized lessons. Guidance is drawn from real systems but written to be reusable — no client names, no internal details, no war stories that only make sense with confidential context.
  • Plain English. Experienced developers, architects, and engineering leaders are the audience. Jargon is used only where it is precise.

Privacy and analytics

This site measures how its articles are read, because that is the only signal available for deciding what to write next. The measurement is deliberately modest.

What is collected, once you accept cookies: page views, how long a page holds attention, how far down the page you scroll, which site or search sent you, and coarse location (country and region), device, and browser. Ratings from the Was this article useful? control at the foot of each article are recorded as events. Collection runs through Google Analytics 4.

What is not collected: names, email addresses, accounts, form contents, or anything you type. There is no attempt to identify individual readers, no advertising or remarketing integration, no data sold, and no tracking of you across other websites.

Declining: the analytics script is not loaded until you accept. Reject on the cookie notice means no analytics cookie is set and nothing is reported — the site behaves identically. You can change the decision at any time through Manage settings on the cookie notice, and clearing this site's cookies resets it. Tracker-blocking extensions have the same effect by consequence: if the script is blocked, nothing is recorded.

View counts and ratings are a separate, simpler thing, and they are not part of the analytics above. The count under an article and the Useful / Not useful buttons are served by this publication's own small API. It sets no cookies and runs whether or not you accept them. Two values reach it: a one-way hash of your IP address and browser user agent, which exists only so that one reader refreshing a page is counted once a day and so that nobody can spam the counter, and — if you rate an article — a random identifier this site stores in your browser, which exists so you can change or withdraw your own rating. The hash is salted with a value that never leaves the server, so it cannot be turned back into an address; the rows holding it are deleted after seven days. Neither value is linked to the analytics data, and neither identifies you. Clearing this site's data in your browser discards the random identifier, after which a new rating counts as a new reader.
